Barbeque Tofu

I made a goal this week to try tofu for the first time. Last weekend, my coworker was raving about the benefits of tofu and how much she likes it. I went on pinterest (where I find all my recipes these days LOL) and found a yummy looking Barbeque Tofu with Pineapple and Mango. My hubby and I love BBQ so I thought this would be a great way to try it for the first time.

I followed the instructions word for word. It was really hard to listen to her advice about staying in the kitchen. I love to wander! It smelled delicious and looked pretty good. Hubby was beyond skeptical but he was willing to try it. I didn’t have my phone on me so I asked Hubby to take a picture for me for this post. Unfortunately, he claims he didn’t hear me so no picture was taken. We ate it with a stir-fry of veggies.

I must admit I wasn’t sure what to expect. It tastes just like the barbeque sauce and pineapples I covered it in. It was a lot mushier than I would have liked but I believe that was my fault. I don’t think I pressed it enough/cooked it long enough. Hubby said the texture was similar to cottage cheese and he felt like he was eating barbeque flavored cottage cheese. haha! He said it wasn’t too bad but the acid from the pineapple was a bit much. I have to agree with him.

Tofu currently isn’t on my top favorite foods list but I will continue trying it in different ways to see if I can like it more!

  1. Thanks for trying my recipe and yes you have to REALLLLLLY press it out or it will be mushy. Any tofu will be that way. Pressing overnight is best and definitely at least for a few hours and you’ll be all set next time!

  2. I’m not a big fan either, but I do know that there are different types and you need to look out for ‘firm’ tofu rather than the regular stuff if you aren’t into the mushy texture.
